Seven tips to make your soap last!
When you find a soap you love, you want it to last as long as it needs to. Unfortunately, due to the ingredients in the soap or the humid environment it is stored in, this doesn’t always happen. While many look for ways to save money, finding ways to make your soap last longer is less expensive and better for the environment as a whole.
Here are some of our easy-to-use tips to help you make your favorite soaps last as long as possible.
1°/ Store up high and in a dry place
Always keep your soap out of the water and away from the direct spray of the shower, which causes it to melt.Soap dishes come in different sizes, shapes, and colors to help drain water and protect your bar of soap as much as possible. Keep it at the other end of the shower so it dries quickly. Airflow is key, so drill holes in the soap dish if the one you have doesn't have them.
2°/ Choose a harder soap.
Always look for the triple milled or French milled variety. These types of soaps are made under high pressure and are harder, denser soaps that last longer because they contain less air.
3°/ Use a washcloth.
You can limit the amount of soap you use by using a washcloth, a shower sponge or even a mesh sponge... That's it!
4°/ Use a soap saver.
A soap saver is a series of raised pegs that prevent your bars of soap from sitting in water. This allows your soap to dry faster and not get all mushy in the water. Most soap dishes use a similar system.
5°/ Take care of your soap.
To do this, you can place your new soaps in a drawer between layers of linen. This helps dry out the soap and results in a harder bar. Placing it in the linen and in a drawer away from moisture allows the soap to maintain its hard shape and dry out so it doesn't instantly melt after being hit by water.
6°/ Always let it air dry completely.
Make sure the soap dries completely before using it again... This is something that is often overlooked but letting the soap dry greatly increases its lifespan!
7°/ Cut your bar into pieces.
The idea is that a smaller soap surface area means less soap touches the water, making your bar of soap last longer. If you start with less soap, there is much less waste.
Ultimately, these are just a few of the many tips you can implement to make your soap last longer. By experimenting with these ideas, you can make your favorite soap last longer, saving you soap and money in the long run. It's a good idea!
