Why use a soap mold?

  • Using a soap mold will allow you to easily make your own homemade soap : superfatted soap, moisturizing soap, nourishing soap, donkey milk soap, vegetable oil soap, etc.

When you prepare your handmade soap recipe, all you have to do is pour the soap dough into the molds . Then, following the instructions in the recipe you will follow, you can unmold them and let them dry. Soap molds act as cookie cutters and allow you to shape your soaps. They are essential during the saponification process.

Then, you will have to let them dry. On average, the drying period at room temperature is 24 to 48 hours for a solid shampoo and between 4 weeks and 6 weeks for a solid soap that lasts well over time. And yes, soap making requires patience!

Natural soaps, an ecological and economical trend to follow:

Solid cosmetic products are trendy, but can sometimes be expensive when you buy them online or in organic stores.
Making your own cold process bar soap is a fun and economical activity.
You can make your own body soap, solid shampoo, deodorant...
Soap molds can even help you make your own homemade solid toothpaste, exfoliant, foaming shaving soap or even natural stain remover soap for laundry.
The raw materials for making soap are inexpensive and the bars of soap last a long time, you will make considerable savings.
Another advantage is that you can customize your soaps and put the ingredients you want in them. Depending on your skin type , you can make nourishing vegetable soap for dry skin and have soft skin after showering.
In terms of health, it is a good alternative to supermarket products, because you choose the composition of your hygiene products.
You can make organic scented soaps by adding the fragrances of your choice: mandarin, cedar, lavender, ylang ylang... and you can also add essential oils for the different virtues they possess.
It is also a very good idea for an original gift to give to your loved ones, they will be delighted to receive a gift made from A to Z by you.
Wrapped in pretty fabric for a 100% zero waste version, your gift is sure to please.

It is also a real ecological gesture, most soaps and other hygiene products contain all sorts of chemicals and are not very respectful of the environment, for example, palm oil which contributes to deforestation. Making your own soap means not participating in all that.
If you are interested in making your own soaps, shampoos and other solid cosmetics, but you don't really know where to buy your ingredients, there are a multitude of sites on the internet that offer natural and organic ingredients to make your own hygiene products at low prices.

Using a vegetable soap with olive oil or a soap with shea butter to wash your hands is a very good natural gesture suitable for sensitive skin, practiced for many years.

Making soap is very satisfying. We recommend cold saponification for better quality and to preserve the virtues of the ingredients used.

What ingredients do you need to make handmade soap?

To make your own soap, you will need 3 main ingredients which will enable the saponification process.

  • Vegetable oils or vegetable butters (shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, argan oil, calendula oil, etc.). The fatty substance used will allow you to have a soap that does not dry out your skin.

  • Caustic soda (not baking soda, percarbonate or soda crystals) Caustic soda must be 100% soda, you can check this by the NaOH symbol on the packaging.

  • Water. (This will be used to dilute the caustic soda).

Mixing these 3 ingredients will allow the chemical reaction necessary for making soap.

As caustic soda is irritating and causes burns, we strongly advise you to protect yourself by using gloves, a mask and protective glasses and to dress from head to toe to protect your skin.
Indeed, making soap is a chemical process and you must pay attention to your health first and foremost.
If you don't want to use caustic soda, no problem, you will find many recipes without soda on the Internet. By consulting blogs on the manufacture of natural cosmetic products, you will inevitably find the soap recipe that suits you.

Also consider equipping yourself with a soap dish to properly preserve your handmade soap and keep it over time. This will allow the water to drain and your soap to dry naturally.
